Long Dog Leashes

Sometimes you need a really long dog leash if you are going to let your dog run around out in your yard or if you want to take him to the park for some dog training. You can find some great dog leashes online ranging from 10 feet to 30 feet that are both well made and inexpensive. A 30 foot leash can be found on the internet for under $20!

They are longer than a regular leash, but can be used for the purpose of walking your dog as well. They are less expensive than a retractable leash but are stronger and less likely to break. They are half the width of a normal shorter dog leash, and although they are lighter in weight they are almost as strong as the thicker, more rugged ones.

Dog Leashes All Over The World

Did you know that all over the world you can find dog leashes of different sizes, styles, designs, lengths, etc?  If you go to Florida, bring back a dog leash from Disneyland!  If you visit China, maybe you can find one of the Great Wall.  Paris?  Buy a dog leash with the Eiffel Tower on it, and in England maybe you can find Big Ben!  You can get some leather, some nylon, some long or short, some thick or thin.  Your dog won’t judge!

Whatever the location, be sure to be on the lookout for a new leash for your dog.  Bring him/her back a gift and they will go crazy, not to mention the fact that you can be reminded of a different trip or part of the world every time you walk your dog.

Classic Leather Dog Leashes

This may be the most basic and common leash that exists today, but it also remains one of the best. Black leather dog leashes are indeed classic. Their defining characteristics include their strength and durability, as well as their command of attention. I like using a leather leash so much more than a nylon leash because they look great and you know they are reliable and sturdy. They have so many common applications, and are typically the leash of choice for handlers of working dogs, such as police dogs, military dogs, and in professional dog training academies.

Leather leashes seem to be of much higher quality than their nylon counterparts most times as well. Some nylon leashes have worn out with use in only a year, whereas leather leashes have lasted my dogs a lifetime. They are not very complex; traditionally they just have a looped handle at the end and a hook at the other end to attach to the collar. But they are made to last. The quality stitching and craftsman ship ensures that they are going to hold.

Leather Dog Leashes

Although they are typically very solid, you can find some cheaply made leather dog leashes as well, so beware of these imitations! Do your homework and find one that you can trust from a reliable source. It will be a great investment for you and your dog for a long time.

We Love Our Dogs

Having a dog is not just owning a pet. Most people develop a very special bond with their canine companion, and treat them as if they were a child, especially if they do not have kids of their own. We spoil our pets, right down to the type of food they eat. And although many dog leashes and other accessories were made to help make training our pets easier, their use is not limited to just obedience. As I describe below, they can serve a variety of purposes from teaching to fashion to health and safety.

Choke Chain/Slip Chain. Used primarily for maintaining control oveDog Choke Chainr your dog during training exercises. It is made of several metal links which form a collar that tightens as your dog strains to pull away from you. Dog leashes are attached to the end of a larger link on the end. This can be very useful in training because it is a form of punishment when the dog lunges away quickly. The dog receives a firm tug around the neck, hopefully teaching him not to do that again. This method should be used with positive reinforcement and incentives as well. Training your dog solely by punishing him when he does something bad is not an effective way.

Flea Collars. Serve a completely different purpose from most. In a couple words, they prevent your dog from getting fleas by unleashing flea repelling chemicals. Sometimes they work well and sometimes they do not. I would recommend always using a flea collar because it is better to be safe than sorry, they are pretty inexpensive and only need to be replaced about once every six months.

Normal Collars. These are the normal nylon or leather collars that wrap around a dog’s neck. They are used to hold ID tags, as well as to connect a leash when you are walking your dog, or attaching him to a runner if you would like to leave him out in the yard. It is very important for your dog to have one of these because if your dog gets lost the license tags on their neck are often the only way for them to be reunited with you. Also, they come in a variety of sizes, colors, patterns, and styles, so you can definitely find one that matches your dog’s personality and stature.
